A mixed ability group with teaching/help for all levels. Painting and drawing using mainly water colour but also pen and ink, gouache, mixed media, and acrylic. History of Art elements are brought into most of our art topics, and appreciation of artists and their techniques is a valuable part of the learning and ‘doing’ process.

For beginners and the more experienced, in the medium of your choice. Exercises will be set on different topics and at appropriate levels. Members are encouraged to pursue their own ideas. There will be demonstrations of technique using various media, and consideration of composition and styles in art.

The art of beautiful handwriting and decoration. The course will include the Foundational Hand developed about 100 years ago and Uncials, which was used in medieval times.  Decoration and colour work using watercolour and gouache.  This is a course for beginners as well as the more experienced.

Cardcraft

Card making and origami, plus iris folding and tea bag folding (you’ll just have to join the group to find out what these are) for both the novice and the experienced. All you need to start is a craft knife and a mat, all specialist equipment is provided. The autumn term will concentrate on Christmas cards.

Embroidery

Both beginners and those with experience welcome. Members can decide what they want to embroider or ask for suggestions, perhaps a stitch sampler, or a motif exercise. The focus during the autumn term will be on Christmas cards and decorations. Most work is hand done, but if machining is necessary the group has use of a sewing machine (and additional lighting)

Patchwork

For all abilities, you don't need any previous experience, just bring a needle and a pair of scissors. Chose to sew by hand or use a machine. Members have previously made a doll's quilt, a double size quilt, cushion covers with Japanese quilting and shadow quilting, and a beginner made a circular tablecloth. There's a machine, fabric for general use, and members help each other out with fabric.

Sugar Craft

A relaxing and engrossing hobby. Everybody welcome, with all ability levels catered for. Create your own stunning masterpieces – spectacular cake displays, table decorations, greetings cards and floral arrangements. Learn the tricks of the trade, step by step. Basic equipment required. Be imaginative – the only limit to what you can achieve is your imagination – so join in and have fun!
