Creative Writing
9.30 - 11.00 am Wednesdays at New Life Church.

Each week members share their writing and receive encouragement and support from the rest of the group. The pieces on offer include short stories, poetry, autobiographical and non-fiction articles. New members welcome, no previous experience necessary. You’ll be surprised at what you can achieve.

This last year has seen several new members joining the group and, now that we are a larger group, it has enabled us to do things a little differently.  Group members read out their written offerings about once a fortnight.  We usually do this for four weeks and then have a writing workshop on the fifth week. For the workshop sessions a willing volunteer (honestly) comes up with an idea and we all write a short piece in group and then share what we have written.  This helps us to tap into our imaginations and write "off the cuff".

During the past year we have had workshops on various topics including poetry, a type of written consequences game and the last one, inspired by the AGM speaker, was writing replies to "would like to meet" ads cut from the paper.  As you may imagine we have much hilarity at times.  Some members are writing novels, one or two their autobiographies, others like poetry and several write entertaining short stories.  Whatever, we don't take ourselves too seriously and have lots of laughs.

Play Reading
1.30 - 4.30 pm, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays fortnightly at Astbury Mere, starting Tuesday 14th September.
Marie Straker

Purely for pleasure and the fun it is to be part of a group reading a play aloud together! Plays will range from old to new, high comedy to darkest tragedy. Members of the group will volunteer(!) to read parts aloud in an appropriate accent or manner - or in a normal voice - just as the mood takes them! It’s also O.K. to come just to listen and enjoy.

Theatre Group
As announced.

New Leader Required

We aim to do a theatre trip once a month either to Manchester or Hanley and usually a matinee.
