Aerobiking – Mike Roche Cycle in the dry and warmth and without the worry of traffic! The group isn't exclusively U3A because it takes advantage of the Leisure Centre’s “Over 50s Aerobiking" but Mike who leads the group is a U3A member. Beginners welcome. Cost £2.10 per session with an East Cheshire Options Card at £6 per annum. This is for the over 60's and gives holders a 50% reduction on all fitness classes and the swimming pool at all EC Leisure Centres.

Badminton (1) – Janet Bartlett A mixed sex and mixed ability group. Members usually provide their own racquets but other members sometimes have a spare or they can be hired. £1 per hour session.
10.00 to 11.00am Mondays, Leisure Centre, all year.
Badminton (2) - David Nicholls All abilities welcome. Will offer basic coaching advice to anyone who requests it – not compulsory! Shuttlecocks provided but bring your own racquet (the centre has a few available for hire). £1-1.50 per hour session.
11.00 to 12.00am Tuesdays, Leisure Centre.
Boules - Ve Carter and Glenys Lowrey If you have never played Boules, or Petanque as we know it, now is your chance. It’s a social, easy to learn game, great fun. No experience necessary but a little knowledge could be very useful! Can be played in teams of twos, fours and sixes.
Church House, Buxton Road, Buglawton Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons at 2pm. If you would like to know more contact Glenys (01260 273990) for Tuesday or Ve (01260 270922) for Wednesday.
Bowls (Indoors) - Roy Nockton, Pat Cox, Bob Lewis Indoor Bowls is played on ‘short mats’ in Congleton Leisure Centre on three afternoons a week, Tuesday , Wednesday & Friday, from early October to late March. Fees are £1.00 for a 2-hour session and bowls can be borrowed at the Leisure Centre. There are three 35-minute games each week, with short intervals for refreshments and players draw for partners. The emphasis is on entertainment - beginners welcome.
October to March at Congleton Leisure Centre, starting October.
Bowls (Crown Green Outdoors) Tuesday – Roy Nockton; Thursday - Ray Angel; Friday – Berwyn Jones. In the summer bowls moves outside with a choice of morning and location.
10:00 to 12:00am. Tuesday and Thursday, Congleton Park, Easter to September. 10:00 to 12:00am. Friday, Coronation Bowling Club, Easter to September.
Croquet – Mike Falla A fascinating summer game of skill and tactics. As played by Congleton U3A, it’s also great fun and (contrary to reputation) a very friendly game. Beginners are welcome and our group includes several levels of ability. £1 per session.
2.30 to 4.30pm Thursdays, Congleton Cricket Club, Easter to Sept/Oct.
Cycling (Tues) and Road Cycling (Fri) – Martin Dobson Cycling. Around 25 miles using local lanes, back roads, cycling trails and canals. Nothing excessive.
9.30 am to 12.30 pm Tuesdays.
Road Cycling. Rides of around 50 miles including a good pub lunch. Starting locations vary and usually include a car ride to the start point in Cheshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire or Shropshire. Rides vary from flat at 14mph average speed to partly hilly at 11mph, involving around 6 cyclists.
9.00am to 5.00pm, third Friday of the month, all year. No charge.

Exercise to Music — Mike Roche Each session will include a warm up, stretching, an aerobic workout, toning exercises, and a final stretch and relax session. Both the music and the level of activity will be appropriate to our membership and suitable for both men and ladies. Main aims are to contribute to our physical fitness and to have fun.
2.00 to 3.00pm, Tuesdays, Scout Hut, Worrall Street. Continuous all year.
Golf Coaching– Roy Duff The programme is flexible, with small group and individual tuition. There are 3 one-hour sessions each week, with varying content, to accommodate both beginners and players with some experience. Fees for the Leisure Centre sessions will be approximately £33 per 12 week term, for room hire.
‘Golf Coaching' runs on Friday mornings, 9.00 to 11.00 a.m. in Autumn and Winter Terms, in Congleton Leisure Centre and, later, at a local driving range.

Keeping Fit - Mike Roche The aim is to improve your fitness whatever your age or ability. Mobility drills provide essential pre-exercise warm-up and as a routine aid to flexibility. The main workout sessions will improve muscle strength and tone and also boost your metabolism to help burn away fat. Exercises can be tailored to the individual, with easier and advanced options. We also aim to enjoy the sessions! We are targeting the men with this group, as the ladies seem to have made the Exercise to Music group almost their own. Having said that, both groups are open to all members of U3A.
3.15 to 4.15pm, Tuesdays, Scout Hut, Worrall Street. Continues all year.
Soft Pedalling - Ian Fraser (with help of Mike Taylor) Shorter distances and shorter times than the other cycling groups.
9.30am, Fridays.
Table Tennis - Ian Bowker The table tennis group meets weekly at Congleton Leisure Centre. You don't need to be an expert to participate. Come along, join in, it's good exercise and good fun too.
2.00 to 4.00pm, Thursdays.
Tai Chi - Improvers/Advanced - Margaret Edwards Tai Chi is the ancient Chinese form of rhythmical and co-ordinated body movements. It aims to harmonise the mind, body and spirit, promoting both mental and physical well being.
11.15am to 12.45pm, Mondays. (Starts Monday 19th September).
Tennis – April to October - Sue Stanmore Details to be confirmed later. Newcomers are very welcome, we would be delighted if you would like to join us. The cost is £2.00. The group leader is Sue Stanmore (tel: 01260 271441). As Sue may not be available on Enrolment Day, please phone her for further information.
